UPS ramps up Saturday service

UPS Ground pickup and delivery expands to six days a week.

Back in the early 1980s, a Canadian rock band proclaimed that “everybody’s working for the weekend.” That probably still rings true today. But now somebody is working harder on the weekend: UPS.

UPS Ground packages picked up on Saturday can be delivered as early as Monday.

Although UPS Air and international deliveries have been available on Saturday for decades, UPS is now delivering UPS® Ground and UPS 3 Day Select® packages to residences on Saturday for the first time. Now customers can receive ground shipments two days earlier. No special processing. No extra cost.

Residential customers in metro Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Atlanta have been seeing more of their UPS drivers on Saturday since last year. After this successful test, UPS Ground on Saturday was expanded to another 32 additional metro areas this spring, including:

  • Chicago
  • Cleveland
  • Denver
  • Houston
  • Indianapolis
  • Milwaukee
  • New York City
  • Pittsburgh
  • St. Louis
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Tampa

By the time the year-end holidays arrive, UPS Ground on Saturday will cover nearly more than 4,600 cities and towns. And, more locations will be added in 2018. This service expansion is seamless to shippers. UPS shipping technologies such as the WorldShip® system and ups.com® are automatically updated with the new ZIP codes for UPS Ground on Saturday as the service becomes available.

Gain a day with ground pickups

In addition to residential ground deliveries, UPS now offers Saturday pickup service for UPS Ground and UPS 3 Day Select® to both business customers and consumers in these same metro areas. And, businesses with a scheduled Saturday ground pickup can also opt for Saturday ground deliveries. UPS Ground packages picked up on Saturday can be delivered as early as Monday, depending on the destination. This will be a big advantage to retailers using a ship-from-store strategy because their customers will get packages faster. In the UPS Pulse of the Online ShopperTM study, retailers say that 46 percent of online customers abandon a shopping cart for reasons that include shipping taking too long.

Saturday pickups for UPS Ground and UPS 3 Day Select will also be available from UPS Access Point® locations, including The UPS Store® locations in these metro areas.
