UPS employees helped out in South Africa. Part of their volunteer work included painting and repairing classrooms and playgrounds.

For the ninth consecutive October, UPS employees around the world joined friends and family to volunteer in local community projects. At UPS, we call it Global Volunteer Month.

UPS estimates that our volunteers completed 275,000 hours of service in October by painting, landscaping and building in places like Brazil, Hong Kong, and Louisville, Ky.

(Story continues at the "Continue reading" link below.)

Global Volunteer Month has started with some pretty inspiring projects. For example:

  • In South Africa, UPS volunteers worked at the Mpumelelo Day Care Centre, a part of the Kempton Park HIV Care Centre, to paint and repair classrooms and playgrounds.
  • While in Brazil, a UPS team built assistive technology items like cardboard walkers for disabled children at Rua Pedro Taques.

We'll be posting updates, including pictures, of various volunteer projects, which you can find on our Community Volunteer site.

We'd also love to hear from you, too. Please share your volunteering experiences by commenting on this article.

Hi..I'm a CIC Committe here is ACSC Phils. Well Every October all of us are very excited to paricipate in this BIG even the "GVM". Being in my position for 4 years is such an overwhelming feelings to help others in need. This teaches me to appreciate little things I have that I never give importance before. It breaks my heart to see children in hunger and no shelter. Thank you UPS Foundation it gives me another chance to continue my vocation in my college years. ^__^
