Tech Tip: Add Declared Value to your shipments

At some point, we all have to ship something valuable. Whether it represents weeks of manufacturing output or the pinnacle of desire of one of your best customers, we understand that it can be a nerve-wracking process. While we can't overstate the importance of appropriate packaging, you can obtain peace of mind knowing that your shipment an have up to $50,000 of Declared Value at your request.

When you ship with UPS, all packages – domestic and international – automatically have Declared Value of up to $100. As the shipper, you don't even need to make a declaration of value to obtain that protection. But now, you can request Declared Value up to $50,000 for most shipments in UPS Internet Shipping. (See the terms and conditions, as some restrictions and a fee apply.)

Here's how:

  1. Log in to myups.com. In the Shipping tab, choose Create a Shipment.
  2. Enter the shipping information on the initial page, Begin Your Shipment. Then enter the dollar value on the Package Declared Value line in section 3, What are you shipping? Complete the rest of the shipping information, including where you want the charges billed, in section 6.
  3. Your UPS account, visible under Payment Information, will automatically be charged an additional fee for the declared value.
