Too little packing material and your package could be damaged. Too much, and you're wasting materials and money.

How do you get it just right?

The new UPS Packaging Advisor is an online tool that takes the guesswork out of packing and helps you determine just what you need* by walking you through industry guidelines.

Here's how it works. First, select the category of your goods, such as electronic accessories, lighting or even windshields. Next, enter the product's dimensions and weight. Based on this information, the Packaging Advisor will provide guidelines about:
  • Exterior carton
  • Interior cushioning
  • Product placement
  • Closure
  • Shipping label placement
The guidelines are calculated according to your product's vulnerability to the compression, shock and vibration effects commonly encountered during shipping. If your product category is not listed, the Packaging Advisor will allow you to add it along with a product assessment so that the best packing recommendations can be provided.

(See the UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service and UPS Rate and Service Guide for commodities handled and updates on services.)

If you're still not sure about how to pack something or would like it professionally packed, ask the Certified Packing Experts at your nearest The UPS Store®. For specialized or high-volume shipping, consult the UPS Design and Testing Lab.

*UPS's packaging guidelines are recommendations to assist you in packaging your shipment. Following these guidelines is not a guarantee that an item is sufficiently packaged for transportation.
