Wireless imprinter will save 1,300 tons of paper each year
This year UPS will deploy a new, wearable combination scanner and paperless printing device from HP that will print sorting labels directly on packages. Once the imprinters are fully deployed throughout UPS, they are expected to save more than 1,300 tons of paper per year.
When packages enter a UPS center for sorting, UPS employees will use the wireless devices to scan shipping labels. The devices will obtain the sorting information from a UPS database via a Wi-Fi network inside the facility.

's new hydraulic hybrid vehicles (HHVs) could offer two big advantages: vast improvements in fuel economy and significant reductions in CO
2 emissions. The HHVs join UPS's green fleet, already the largest private fleet in the transportation industry.
The little-known hydraulic hybrid technology, developed in a laboratory of the
Environmental Protection Agency, combines a high-efficiency diesel engine with a unique hydraulic propulsion system, replacing the conventional drivetrain and transmission. The vehicles use hydraulic pumps and hydraulic storage tanks to capture and store energy.
