Q: Shipping a package with an incorrect address costs us time and money. How can UPS help me get it right the first time?
A: Address Validation occurs automatically in UPS shipping systems and verifies the city, state and postal code combination of any U.S. "Ship To' address. If UPS is unable to validate the combination, you will have the option to use a suggested address from a U.S. Postal Service address database, revise the original address or use the original address.
Detailed Address Validation validates the street number range and the suite/apartment range of your "Ship To" address for domestic shipments. If UPS is unable to validate the combination, you will be offered suggested ranges from a USPS database of valid addresses.
To activate Detailed Address Validation in
Internet Shipping, select the
Validate this street address checkbox on the
Begin Your Shipment page. Or, you can visit the
Set Preferences page (from the link to the left). Scroll down the
Shipping Preferences section to
Edit Address Book, and select
View/Edit. Check the box next to
Always perform Detailed Address Validation on Ship To Addresses.
Q: I've been having trouble with my printer. How can I print a sample label to test it before I actually print the real thing?
A: Here's how to print a "practice" label before you do the real thing:
Select Create a Shipment in the area at the left, then select Set Preferences.
In the Printing Preferences area of the Shipping Preferences screen, select Print a Sample Label.
Q: I want to ship high-fashion accessories – snakeskin belts and pearl earrings – overseas. How can I determine whether these items are allowed?
A: Learn all about the import/export rules between two specific countries by using the
Country Regulations tool at ups.com. Use the pull-down menus to select origin and destination countries, then select from a list of topics such as Restricted Commodities, Gift Exemptions and Service Options. The tool will display the rules you need to follow.
